If you experience loss of power:
1. Check fuses and breakers to see if the outage is caused
by a source at your location.
2. Contact your neighbors to see
if the outage is limited or widespread.
3. Call the Taos office at (505) 758-2258 or 1-800-688-6780
to report the outage.
4. Be ready to give your name, telephone number, and physical
location. Include house # and any other information to assist
crews in locating your residence.
5. Leave one (1) switch on so you will know when the electricity
is on.
6. Stay away from downed power lines and call KCEC with information
about problems with the line.
7. Have emergency supplies on hand (candles, matches, flashlights,
etc.).
Loss of power in certain areas can mean an open breaker or
fuse. This is an indication of an overload or defective appliance.
When the cause is found you should replace the fuse or reset
the breaker. If necessary, seek the help of an electrician
(we are not responsible for any problems on the member's side
of the meter.) Members of Kit Carson Electric Cooperative who
contend with a medical condition which requires electricity
for treatment can be notified of scheduled planned outages
happening in their area.
